Vlad Eniu

Vlad Eniu is a distinguished conductor and a graduate of the conducting department at the “Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, where he studied under the guidance of Maestro Petre Sbârcea, graduating as valedictorian. He continued his artistic training with a master’s degree at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Milan and later earned a Ph.D. in music in Cluj-Napoca in 2021, receiving the Summa cum laude distinction for his thesis entitled “Conducting Perspectives on the Lyrical-Dramatic Repertoire of the 20th Century.”

During his university studies, he was awarded a one-year scholarship at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome and participated in mobility programs at renowned conservatories in Berlin, Vienna, and Stuttgart. He had the privilege of being mentored by prominent conductors, including Daniele Gatti, Ryusuke Numajiri, Vittorio Parisi, Luis Rafael Salomon, Ekkehard Klemm, Enrique Garcia Asensio, Konrad von Abel, and Jan Stulen, among others.

In addition to his conducting career, Vlad Eniu is a resident physician in obstetrics and gynecology at Gynecology Clinic No. 1 within the Cluj County Emergency Hospital. He is also a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. His dual passions for music and medicine have harmoniously intertwined, shaping a unique professional journey.

Vlad Eniu has conducted numerous national ensembles, including the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, the Orchestra of the “Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music, and the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic in Bacău. He has also collaborated with private orchestras such as Opera Group Project, Opera Vox, ALTOrchestra, and Camerata Regală. Internationally, he has conducted ensembles including the “Giuseppe Verdi” Orchestra in Milan, the National Youth Orchestra of Moldova, and the Kammerphilharmonie Graz.

Among his notable achievements are the founding of the Claudiopolis Orchestra and Choir in 2012, a project launched during the anniversary edition of the Medicine, Art, and Culture Galas, as well as his work with the “Medstrings” Medical Students’ Orchestra and the UMF Choir in Cluj-Napoca. Milestones in his career include the national premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar (August 2014) and a symphonic rock concert with the band Grimus and ALTOrchestra (2018).

Vlad Eniu is recognized for his innovative projects and performances held in unconventional locations. In collaboration with Scena Urbană, he created memorable productions, such as the annual concerts in the Central Cemetery of Cluj-Napoca (starting in 2015, representing his signature project), Haide U pe Scena Urbană (from 2017, culminating with the U100 Centenary), Carmen by G. Bizet on Cetățuia Hill (2015), and My Fair Lady performed outdoors at the Cluj-Napoca train station (2014, 2022). Other remarkable moments include outdoor productions for children, such as Alice in the Snowlands (on the ice rink in Unirii Square), Alice in the Land of Toys (in the courtyard of the Cluj Art Museum), Countess Maritza (as part of the Cluj Summer Nights, 2017), What We’ve Been Humming in the Last Century (with children from the Armonia Music choir), and many more.

A passionate advocate of musical pedagogy, Eniu imparts an educational dimension to his concerts whenever possible, particularly with the Medical Students’ Orchestra and performances dedicated to children. In 2014, before leaving for Milan, he co-founded the educational ensemble Learn & Play, with which he conducted approximately 30 interactive workshops for children.

Currently, Vlad Eniu serves as the conductor and coordinator of the “Medstrings” Medical Students’ Orchestra and the UMF Choir in Cluj-Napoca. With these ensembles, he has performed over 50 concerts in hospitals and at various medical events in Cluj, as well as at public events such as Cluj Days or the Cluj-Napoca Christmas Market. Through his work, Vlad Eniu embodies a remarkable synergy between artistic innovation and community engagement.
